I'm Ryan Wheaton. I'm a marketer, martial artist and martial arts school owner. My website

Yes, while it isn’t effective on youtube, it is effective on my site plus it costs less using them to host my videos.
Great point. Hosting your martial arts schools videos on YouTube is free. They also make embedding videos onto your site very simple. It’s just a cut and paste. Thanks for the comment!
Not that I have anything gainst YouTube but it’s just too easy to get lost in the clutter. On top of that, I’d rather not arm keyboard warriors whose knowledge, skill, and expertise is beyond the simple understanding of mere mortals. I have several videos on my website and use local ads, flyers, demos, and “meet and greets” to draw interested parties to my website. The videos and photos are as much for my students as they are for promotion.
Rick, if you use targeted keywords for your title and video descriptions on your YouTube videos, it’s easier to be found on YouTube. It can also help your videos get ranked in the search engines outside of the noise of YouTube. Videos from YouTube are being indexed just like websites on Google. Worth exploring more!
