Balance Your On Site SEO Efforts with Your Off Site SEO for Higher Rankings
I recently discussed several onsite search engine optimization tips. So, to compliment that post, here are ten off site search engine optimization (SEO) tips you can implement today to help get better rankings.
Like the stock market, you don’t want to have all your money in one stock. So when it comes to search engine optimization, you don’t want to have only one kind of back link to your martial arts studio’s web site. By being too heavy in one kind of backlink, say directory listings, it can look “unatatural” to the search engines and can decrease your rankings. If you’re going to implement SEO tactics, it’s best to diversify your portfolio of link types.
Top 10 Off Site SEO Tips
When it comes to SEO, you can’t have enough good quality, highly focused, keyword rich back links from related websites.
- Create content worth linking to! Ok, so this is an on site SEO tip but it does leads to off site SEO. Having other people choose to link to you without asking for it is holy grail of SEO.
- Judiciously participate in link exchanges with another site. They put their link on their site and you reciprocate. Caution: don’t over use this one.
- Write an SEO friendly press release and submit it to PRWeb.
- Write information rich articles around certain keywords and post them to article syndication websites like Go Articles or Buzzle. Be sure to use keyword rich anchor text in your signature block with a link back to your site.
- Comment on martial arts related blog posts and point them back to your site.
- Submit your site to paid and free website directories like Best of the Web Directory (BOTW.org) and JoeAnt.com.
- Consider buying SEO text links from services such as Text Link Brokers. Note that Google frowns on this practice unless it’s explicitly for advertising purposes or to drive traffic.
- Have a blog? submit your RSS feed to a blog directory like mybloglog.com.
- Participate in forum discussions and have a link back to your site in your signature block.
- Once a month (at minimum) actively work to get more backlinks to your site. Chip away at this as often as you can, as it will make a considerable difference in your rankings over time.
Additional Off Site Linking Tips
- When you have control over a link, target specific keywords in your anchor text for each link.
- Mix up your keywords you use in your anchor text. Pick 5-10 targeted terms and use them often.
- Don’t just use your martial arts school name as the anchor text.
- If someone is linking to your site and it just uses your name, see if they will change the anchor text to something more keyword rich like “Salt Lake City Utah Martial Arts Lessons.”
As with anything related to SEO, it takes time for the search engines like Google to respond. SEO is a long term strategy that can take months and months to see the changes. That said, I’ve experienced increases in as little as 30 days using some of these tactics. However, some have taken 90 days or longer. In SEO, you best get used to being patient!
What are you waiting for? Start implementing these off site SEO tips and watch your rankings rise! In future posts, I will break down each of these strategies into further detail as some of these SEO tactics may be new to you.
