Adam,

Thanks for visiting and the comment. You do have to create new accounts for each local directory so be sure to start there and you should be good to go.

Hope it helps.

Javier,

I have not heard of Judy's Book and have not seen it in my local search engine listings. I typically look in the top 10-20 listings. Anything outside of that and there is a point of diminishing returns. If it's coming up in other people's local search in the top 20 or so, I would definitely add your school (if it is free).

I agree you should mention these directories to your students and ask them to provide reviews if they are willing. Directory listings with reviews will likely get the most boost in the search engines from what I've seen.

Another one that comes up in my local area is http://www.dojolocator.com/. This is highly targeted as it is 100% local and martial arts related. You might want to consider that if it comes up in your local results.

Great tips on marketing your Karate school on those online directories. I use 5 of the 7 directories, and they seem to work fine. Google Maps and Local.com are probably the two directories that gets me the most traffic. I've never heard of Insider Pages.com, so I'll have to check them out.

Also, don't know if you've run across them - Judy's Book (www.judysbook.com). I'm in their directory as well. I've heard other small businesses use them and have received great success.

My only problem is that I don't get any traffic from Judy's Book or Yelp, and I'm wondering if that is because I haven't received any reviews from the public. Granted, my business is not open quite yet (taking longer than expected), but I'm hoping that once I get reviews it will help my rankings.

What I may do is ask customers to write a review on these directories...

Thoughts?

Thanks again for the great info!
